I’d like to mention what I perceive as a contributing factor to the gay lifestyle stereotype, which is the literally dangerously oppressive society that existed across the USA up until around 1990/2000 and that still exists in pockets of the USA and in several societies internationally. The fear of being outed was real and threatened gay people, their children, spouses, parents, siblings, friends. Not only reputations, but jobs and lives. It seems to me that most Christians believe our civil work is to protect society from drifting away from our values. But I think a Christian should have the same civil role as any other citizen. If we are to make a difference, I think it’s that Church should be the first to promote social equality and justice regardless of religion, which is simply constitutional and something that Jesus promoted.
