What is the spelling of the system of laws/primary codex mentioned at 51:27? The Codex of Hammam? And are there any online resources to access this codex? Thank you!
Sorry I probably pronounced it completely wrong in the videos Molly – it’s been so long I can’t remember what I said but I usually butcher these things. It’s called the Code of Hammurabi

I’m going to start from the beginning, but there are several things here which I am hoping you’ll give me some more clarification on or confirm what it seems you are saying. It seems that you are claiming that God the Father is clapping and cheering the slaughter of the Canaanites 14:36. He clearly commands the slaughter of every living thing but that doesn’t mean He walks in clapping and cheering for it. We have God patiently waiting during the 400+ years between Abraham and Joshua until the Canaanites iniquity is complete before doing what is demanded by their sin… Read more »
Hi Davis, Great comment – thanks for entering into the discussion with such passion. I’m very glad you disagree, I have zero interest in preaching to the choir and in fact, I have no need for you to change your mind either… my goal is simply to present alternative views and create meaningful thought and discussion. I think we would be agree that at times I might use caricatured representations to make a point but I don’t by any means think I’m misrepresenting a fairly normative view of the Christian God not just by those outside the faith but also… Read more »

The English language, and really all language, is funny sometimes. It tends not to represent only one meaning behind each individual word, but dozens at times. The fact that it “pleased” the Lord to do anything does not alway mean that He takes pleasure in the action itself. We are told that “But the LORD was pleased to crush Him” (Isaiah 53:10) and, whether you believe that this is about Jesus or any other Messianic person in Judaism, it is fairly clear that the act of crushing wasn’t what pleased Him but the result from it. “As a result of… Read more »
Great points Davis, as you said the English language is fickle, unfortunately I only read Greek and not Hebrew so I am reluctant to make any absolute statements on the OT, although there is definitely some room to interpret those passages in the Septuagint version of Isaiah differently than you have :) But that’s probably a whole other step off topic! I’m very glad we are on the same page re: genocide… you’d be surprised the amount of Christians I end up talking to who think genocide is a good thing when sanctioned by God such as in the Bible.… Read more »

I’m sorry to hear about the pain in your hands. That has to be a very difficult thing to deal with in your line of work in an online world, as much of it seems to be things like what we are doing now. I wish we could talk face to face about these things because that is where clarity is usually found. I do agree that we start with the same root, but the problem often comes in following only one root and abandoning another. I see this all the time as I talk with people about the sovereignty… Read more »

I understand that you must be busy with everything you’re doing, but I’m hoping that we can keep this discussion open. I know we are at different ends on most of these issues, but I want to see what you are seeing that has led you to where you are. It is difficult sometimes when many of these points are just tiny branches that have all been fed from a single viewpoint. We, as humans, have a tendency to build our worldviews on narrow ideas and keep them growing until they topple. I want to understand more about the trunk… Read more »
Sorry I dropped out recently – been struggling a lot with pain and have been focused more on studying rather than communication. To be honest the best thing for you to do if you are really interested in this framework I’m presenting would be to pick up a copy of Michael Hardin’s book “The Jesus Driven Life”. Michael is a very well regarded scholar and his book is one of the best I’ve come across that talks about how this hermeneutical lens is build. It will go into the topic in much greater depth than ever could here in the… Read more »
